Brutus Monroe Guest DT String Of Lights Shine On

Hello again Brutus friends! Today I will be sharing a colorful card with you. I just knew I wanted to use this cool paper that matched up perfectly to the String Lights stamp set. I knew that I wanted to use bright colors for the lights. Layers of lights is what ended up happening.

I adhered my Paper Studio lights paper to a white card base. The String Lights are stamped in archival ink and illuminated by using some distress ink blotted on with a stencil brush. Wink of Stella added some sparkle and some glossy accents finished off the bulbs to create a glassy effect. Next I used some foam tape to pop up the stamped image. It still seemed like it needed something so I pressed some distress ink onto my glass media mat and sprayed a tiny bit of water on it to make some matching watercolor. I used a brush to pick that up and specifically flicked it onto the upper left and lower right of the card to create more balance and get rid of void space.

I hope you have enjoyed my card as a DT guest. Happy stamping and crafting friends!

Brutus Monroe Guest DT Sept String Of Lights Happy Birthday

Hello to my crafty friends! Jeanie Hays here, guest designing this month! Thank you for taking a look at my latest creation using one of my new favorite stamp sets; String Of Lights. Take a look at the Brutus Monroe set online. It comes with 3 different strings of lights and sentiments! You'll get to see more with this set next week.

I wanted to create a background that would allow these lights to stand out. A stripy stencil, some watercolor pencils and watercolor paper did the trick. Taping the stencil down is a must in order create some order. But you could probably get a pretty background without a stencil too. I didn’t intend on scribbling but that is what happened and I kinda like the results. Not adding too much water allowed for some of the pencil marks to remain. Shifting the stencil up, re-taping it, scribbling some yellow pencil and washing quickly over it with water made for a super quick background.

The String Of Lights are stamped twice in Archival ink using a Misti. There is a tiny hint of green in the background so I added some green flat backed pearls to pull that color out. I also added some blue pearls. Don’t they make the most adorable 3d lights?

The black twine is meant to be a continuation of the Sting Of Lights but softened with a bow. I need a birthday card today for a fellow crafter! I grabbed the Happy Birthday Sentiment from the FeatheredFriends kit. The stripes gave it a natural underline creating a perfect place for it to rest until read.

Thanks for stopping by! Leave a comment during my time as a Guest designer for a chance to win a brutus monroe stamp.

Friends Of Unity Sept Autumn Colors

Friends of Unity
September
Autumn Colors

There is so much to love about fall; especially the colors. My favorite thing about fall though is.... just watching the leaves drop from the trees. They have a way of floating through the air perfectly; in such a way as to float, swirl and catch your attention for just a moment.

I was lucky enough to get this Sept 2016 KOTM from participating in Unity's Growing In Unity guest designer program.

Prisma colored pencils were perfect for laying color on top of the dirt (kraft paper). I used a blender pent to melt the colors of the leaves together. It also helps put the pigment into the  micro valleys of the paper. The sentiment is from a grab bag.

This same Kit of the Month has some amazing stamps in it. These pumpkins are just adorable and were perfect to continue on with the fall theme. I used the same Prismas as the above card. I also used the same SU sweater embossing folder for both cards. I think it just wraps the card in some more fall.

Happy Fall Y'all!
