Growing In Unity Day#5
Black Thumb Green Thumb
Everblooming & I Hope This Grows!
"I Hope This Grows" is a fitting name for these veggie stamps because that's what I'd be saying if I were gardening. Actually I'd prob be praying over it daily, "please God let them live!" because... I kill plants. I have such a hard time keeping things alive. I either over do it or not do enough. Can't seem to find the right balance of anything. But...that doesn't change the fact that I love flowers and love to eat fresh veggies...or stamp them. lol. Didn't make these garden sticks for myself though; made them for a friend of mine who has a GREEN thumb.
These sticks were super easy to make. A quick white wash with chalk paint did the trick leaving it looking kinda rustic. Them I stamped the veggies and words with Gina K Amalgam ink (Unity sells this awesome ink). Arteza brush pens made watercoloring them super quick. Sealing the sticks would be a good idea for outdoor use. My spray seal was MIA when I needed it though.
It was my friends birthday so I had to make a shaker card. This Everblooming card was the perfect addition to the garden sticks. A few weeks back I decided to get rid of last years planner. It had tons of pretty printed pages in it. I pulled out the pages and threw them in my paper bin. It is hard to see in the picture because the colors are soft but the seed packet, the pink printed piece and what the flower is stamped on are all the old planner paper. The green striped paper is from Hobby Lobby. Does it make me a hoarder that i pulled paper out of that planner?!! lol I'm just gonna call myself thrifty.
Twine wrapped several times around the stacked sticks then tied in a bow seemed to fit the rustic yet soft feel of the set.
I think my green-thumb-gardening friend liked her birthday gift. I have plans to make more. So easy and fun. I enjoyed stamping on something other than paper for a change.
So tell me... What color is your thumb? Leave a comment and you will be entered for a chance to win 1 of 2 Unity surprise grab bags.
Awesome gift idea!! My thumb is black... I have one bamboo plant that has survived my forgetfulness in watering and the freezing cold temps in our living room. I don’t know how it has made it all this time, but I kill any other plant.
ReplyDeleteFabulous week, Jeanie! I can’t believe it’s over... you did an amazing job!
DeleteMy thumbs not very green...lol. I've been know to kill a few plants, but I still have one here that's alive. Congrats on being GIU this week!
ReplyDeleteDarling idea!
ReplyDeleteLove your veggie markers and shaker card! My dad was a potato farmer and had the most beautiful flower gardens. 3 of his 8 kids inherited his green thumb. This chick was NOT one of them! Mine is black!!
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed your week! Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
Loved this. I’m so glad you found a pretty use for your old planner! I think my thumb is a very very pale green. Lol
ReplyDeleteThose plant sticks look a whole lot prettier than what I usually do! My husband's thumb is green, and while I don't usually kill plants, his seem to produce a lot more! That's a nice card too!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite stamps! I love how you made it into a shaker card... so cute! Thanks for sharing this week!
ReplyDeleteI love this card and the stamp. It is so crisp and pretty. It is so fitting to be a shaker card too. I love to garden , it is one of my favorite things to do. Thank you for a wonderful week of inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI love this set and the shaker card is perfect. My Nana had such a green thumb and always had an abundance of gorgeous flowers growing. My thumb is definitely black. The only thing I kept alive for a little while was an orchid that you put a couple of ice cubes on once a week to water them. They lasted 9 months which was a record for me, lol.
ReplyDeleteFabulous project to end your week! Love it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Jeanie that any gardener would love to receive. Gardening is second in line after creating so I will admit I have a green thumb but we all loose plants sometime due to situations out of our control. I'm itching to get my fingers back in the dirt but with the cold winter weather and moisture I can't even do garden bed clean up so back to making cards!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say purple is my thumb but green is a close second! I love this card and the garden markers it’s been awesome hanging with you this week thank you for the inspiration ππ

My mind says I have a green thumb, but my hubby would say I have a black thumb. But I try...some live...some go onto greener pastures. lol. I love how you recycled your planner pages, very creative. This is stunning! I'm sure your friend will LOVE this gift. I love those stamps, your coloring, design, and that it's a shaker card too! Just like a seed packet. Thanks for your inspiration all week...it's been an amazing gift!
