Inspired By Challenge Backyard Bbq

Hey y'all! Who doesn't enjoy a backyard bbq! I know I do! Especially if it means getting my husband to do the cooking!

So... I wanted to play along with the Inspired By Backyard Bbq challenge!

I was just going to make a card but then I decided to make something I'd actually get to use when we bbq for the 4th of July.

I found some old denim paper I got at Wal-Mart a long time ago and wrapped it around an old Atlas food jar (upcycling). Some cut and pulled burlap gave it some more texture. The star medallion in the middle is from Unity's Ragged ol' Flag. The little stars were cut with dies that I had found at a thrift shop.

I decided to keep this simple and not add any more because it will be outside on my back porch. My kids will play with it I'm sure.

Ok yeah...so by the time I typed this my 3 year old pulled out the little flag and all the red shred! Uggg!

Inspired By challenge Snail and Flower

Inspired By Challenge

I knew I had the perfect stamp to create my own inspired version pf this photo. I used Unity's Happy Snail Mail
and Whispy Blue Bells.

I watercolored the images using Jane Davenport watercolors. Embossing first made it super easy to do!

Unity Inspired By Challenge

Inspired by... Challenge

Summer reminds me of tropical vacations and beach living. Today I'm trading in my porch for a boat deck, ocean waves and whales! Lol

Unity: The Other Side of Fear

Whale watching is on most bucket lists. A few years ago I was fortunate enough to cross this one off my list.

March brings North Pacific Humpback whales to the coasts of the Hawaiian Islands. Off of the coast of Maui we got to see many mama and baby whales.

This card is inspired by that. There were too many perfectly shaped whale tails to count. Babies showed off by spinning themselves out of the water.

This whale is one of my fav Unity kits! I used markers to color him. Some ink mixed with water using an old toothbrush created the big splash of his tail!

Masculine is the Cue!

King of the Porcelain Throne

For some crazy reason when given the cue, masculine, the first thing that came to mind was a toilet.

Ah Crap! is the name of the Unity kit!

Maybe it's because my husband spends so much time on one (really escaping the kids and on fb) or because I can recall my dad's famous throne of vomit-green porcelain? idk but i do know that my husband would throw a fit if I included him in on this one so I decided to replicate my Dad's throne with paper.

Ya'll think I'm weird right?! Well, it's just my memory folks. I remember dark paneling and some weird fake brick flooring. That 70's fuzzy rug was there too. I can still remember my frugal father saying, "one for pee, two for poo!" Who does that?

I thumbed through my green paper until I found one that rang true to my memories. I embossed the toilet with gold just for the 'throne' effect (wasn't there in real life) or was it? Then brushed a thin layer of glossy accents to give that porcelain look.

Spectrum Nior markers were great for making the toilet paper look more 3D.

Paper piecing brought the tiny plunger to life.

I can't figure out what sentiment to add so help me out here. Which do I add? Pick your favorite and write it in the comments. I'll randomly choose 1 winner and you'll get some grab bag stamps from me (announced on next month's blog post. Be sure to check back). Remember to claim your prize within one month of the announcement.

Don't forget...Crystal is doing a giveaway too!
